London – Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi Bawazeer, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met today with the UK’s Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Hamish Falconer, during his participation in the London Conference 2026.
The meeting, attended by Yemen’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Yassin Saeed Noman, discussed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to strengthen joint cooperation. The two sides also reviewed the latest political, security, economic, and humanitarian developments in Yemen, as well as the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to support stability, advance recovery, and strengthen state institutions.
Dr. Al-Alimi highlighted the Yemeni government’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace and its engagement in political processes since 2015. He noted that the Houthi militias have continued to reject political initiatives while exploiting periods of calm to rearm and escalate military activities. He further stressed that Iranian interventions—including the operation of a direct flight to Sana’a International Airport, which is under Houthi control—constitute a violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and demonstrate the militias’ ties to the Iranian project, posing a threat to regional and international security.
The Presidential Leadership Council member praised the Yemeni-British partnership and the United Kingdom’s support for Yemen in the political, humanitarian, economic, and capacity-building sectors. This includes the UK’s Technical Assistance and Financial Facility for Yemen (TAFFY) program, as well as support for maritime security efforts and the enhancement of the capabilities of the Yemeni Coast Guard. He also commended the fraternal and pivotal role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the support provided by regional and international partners to the Yemeni state and its institutions.
For his part, the British minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing its support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government in their reform efforts. He also stressed the importance of strengthening partnership and cooperation across various sectors to promote security and stability, support Yemen’s recovery process, and improve the country’s humanitarian and economic conditions.
