London – SABA News:
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi Baوزير, met today in the British capital, London, with British Member of Parliament Tahir Ali, Chair of the Parliamentary Group on Yemen, in the presence of Yemen’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Yassin Saeed Noman.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between Yemen and the United Kingdom, as well as the latest political, security, and economic developments in Yemen. They also reviewed the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to support stability, recovery, and the strengthening of state institutions.
Dr. Al-Alimi praised the important role played by the British Parliamentary Group on Yemen in keeping the Yemeni issue on the agenda of the UK Parliament, enhancing British policymakers’ understanding of the challenges facing Yemen, and mobilising political, humanitarian, and economic support to assist the Yemeni people and their legitimate institutions.
The Presidential Leadership Council member outlined the efforts of the legitimate government and its endeavours to achieve a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace. He highlighted its positive engagement with political initiatives and processes, stressing that the government has not closed Sana’a Airport. Rather, it has offered legal solutions and secure administrative procedures to operate flights through the national carrier, Yemen Airways, in a manner that preserves state sovereignty and guarantees citizens’ right to travel regularly and smoothly.
He noted that the Houthi militias rejected these solutions, continuing to exploit citizens’ suffering and obstruct the resumption of flights, which, he said, demonstrates that they are the ones imposing the blockade and worsening the hardships faced by the Yemeni people.
Dr. Al-Alimi stressed the importance of the international community fulfilling its responsibility by pressuring the Houthi militias to stop exploiting people’s suffering and using the issue of airports and flights for political and military purposes. He affirmed that Yemeni citizens are the first victims of the militias’ intransigence and their rejection of available legal options.
Dr. Al-Alimi also pointed to the continued efforts by the terrorist Houthi militias to obstruct peace efforts, exploit periods of calm to rearm and develop their military capabilities, and escalate threats to security and stability in Yemen and the region. He said this is being carried out with direct support from the Iranian regime, which uses armed militias as a tool to destabilise regional security and threaten international navigation in the Red Sea.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi emphasised the importance of the British Parliament continuing, through its relevant committees and parliamentary groups, to support Yemen and its legitimate institutions, back efforts to achieve peace, stability, and recovery, and strengthen the capabilities of the Yemeni state so it can protect its sovereignty and secure its borders and maritime routes.
For his part, British Member of Parliament Tahir Ali affirmed the British Parliamentary Group on Yemen’s commitment to continuing its focus on Yemeni affairs, strengthening communication with Yemeni leaders, supporting efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability, alleviating humanitarian suffering, and enhancing relations between the two friendly countries.
